Chapter 14

Abby

“Are you sure you want to go through with this? It’s not like they don’t have enough help down there already,” Sloan said with a small smile. I knew she meant well, but it was hard for me to take her seriously at times. She hadn’t been at the attack any more than I had been. In fact, she had her own protection right there at the club.

But, that didn’t change the fact that these men were all family to each other. I learned that the hard when I showed up at the barbecue and Julian all but glared at me like I was poison. Sloan, however, had inserted herself into that family, and not only would there be no drawing her out, but I knew she had a fierce loyalty to them.

“You had fun at the barbecue when you went, and you didn’t think you were going to do that,” she reminded me. I sighed again. She did have a

with that one as well. I did have fun, except for the fact I felt like Julian hated me.

But, that wasn’t her fault. She didn’t have much to do with Julian besides the mutual friends the two of them had in common. If it wasn’t for that, I couldn’t help but question if the two of them would be friends at all.

Though Sloan was one of the classier strippers at the club, I couldn’t say Julian was one of the classier clients. In fact, he was one many of the girls had tried to avoid over their months there. It wasn’t that he was disrespectful, but he liked submission, and if there was one thing a stripper never did, it was submit.

When we were on the floor, we were the ones in charge, and we knew it. We didn’t care what the other guy was like – hot, rich, good job, good house, good car, single even. If he was in the club, we were the ones who called the shots, and we knew it from the beginning.

Any guy who didn’t play by the rules was asked to leave immediately. And if he didn’t, well, he was made to leave, and it was as simple as that. I had men in my life who would back me up, not to mention Sloan and all her stripper friends.

“Come on, you haven’t been the same since you and that guy have been hooking up,” she pressed. I knew she knew better than to use Julian’s name. She knew we weren’t a real item, and she wanted to do what she could to support that. After all, I had done enough for her through the years – anything really to get a guy away from her she simply had to get away from.

Now, it was my turn for her to be there for me. And it was only right that I let her do it. Finally, it would do my some good to get out of the house. For as much time
